Tributes continue to pour in for Gilbert “Gib” Zilner, the co-founder of Diamond Drug and Diamond Medical Supply, who died over the weekend.

Former State Senator Don White remembered Zilner as a close personal friend who was always an outgoing person in Indiana County.

Part of Diamond’s growth over the years under the leadership of Gib and his wife Joan has become the largest supplier of pharmacies to correctional facilities in the United States. Sheriff Bob Fyock said Gib was also a big proponent of getting drugs out of the hands of would-be addicts through the drug take-back program.

The Zilners purchased Diamond Drug in 1970 and expanded it to include the medical supplies industry, a mail-order retail company, an FDA-certified drug repackaging company, and a healthcare software company. Gib is also remembered for his contributions to Indiana County, including supporting the Angels Wings program, and his work with the Indiana County Airport Authority, and two terms as Chairman of the Board of administration of Aging Services, Inc. And this year alone, Diamond Drugs was named “Best Place to Work” in the Best of Indiana County awards.

Diamond Drugs has released its own tribute to Zilner, which can be viewed at Zilner was 85 years old.
