Group of government experts recommends EUA for Covovax, Corbevax and anti-Covid pill Molnupiravir


Recommended for the authorization to manufacture and market the anti-Covid pill Molnupiravir for restricted emergency use for the treatment of adult patients with 93% SpO2 who are at high risk of disease progression, including hospitalization or death, under certain conditions.

All recommendations have been sent to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for final approval. CDSCO’s COVID-19 SEC, which reviewed Serum Institute of India (SII) emergency use authorization (EUA) applications for the second time on Monday, after detailed deliberation recommended granting the ‘EUA to Covovax.

The Center reviewed public health response measures for the containment and management of Covid-19 and vaccination status with five states linked to the elections on Monday. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan held a high-level meeting with senior officials from Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, the ministry said. During the meeting, Bhushan advised authorities to step up the coronavirus vaccination campaign for the entire eligible population through a weekly district plan with daily review. Those who have not yet received their first dose should receive the same dose at the earliest, while those who are waiting for their second dose of the vaccine should complete the course, they told States.

Hinting at the re-imposition of strict Covid restrictions if the situation warrants it, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Monday that many people with coronavirus symptoms were coming from outside. Banerjee, who was addressing a meeting at the Nabanna Secretary of State, called on officials to be on their guard to avoid any spike in cases.
